Kathmandu - The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested 5 people who sold land worth 70 million rupees by making fake documents stating that the owner of the land had died. The police said that the group sold 341 square meters of land in Kirtipur Municipality Ward No. 2 for Rs 3.7 million after the death of the land owner Shantadevi Lohani.


Landlord Lohani had been living in Japan for a long time. Last time when Lohani tried to record his land through the biometrics system at the Malpot office in Kalanki on May 5th, it was revealed that his land had been sold 14 months ago. Lohani purchased the land in 2061.
According to the police, the arrested are 52-year-old Mahavir Chand of Uku Rural Municipality of Darchula, 41-year-old Ganesh Bahadur Khanal of Melamchi 4 of Sindhupalchok, 40-year-old Baburam Karki of Solukhumbu Thulung Dudhkosi Rural Municipality 1, 46-year-old Premprasad Khanal of Nuwakot Tarakeshwar Rural Municipality 1 and Dasimaya Shrestha of Kathmandu Tarakeshwar 2 Municipality. is
Among those arrested, 52-year-old Mahavir Chand created a fake citizenship in the name of Lohani's husband Taranidhi. Chand, who became Taranidhi, submitted an application to the Malpot Office stating that Shantadevi died on August 13, 2077. The land in the name of Shantadevi was registered in fake Taranidhi on 5th of January of the same year. They sold the land to Sunita Karmacharya of Bhaktapur Municipality 11 on 10th February 2077 for 37 million rupees.
Among the arrested, Khanal and Karki were the main planners, police said. In which Khanal was looking for buyers and managed the financial transactions and Karki was coordinating the preparation of forged documents and the delivery office. The police arrested both of them from Bharatpur in Chitwan last Thursday.
